My life and the oceans have been deeply bound for decades – when I first picked up a speargun in the 1950s, I never imagined how the amazing abundance of life in our oceans would change over the next half a century.
As an underwater photographer I know that the marine wilderness we take for granted is losing its richness and diversity at an alarming rate. The federal government’s proposed Coral Sea marine park leaves 90% of the coral reefs open to some forms of fishing.
This just isn’t good enough.
Most ocean animals live on and around coral reefs and I’ve seen firsthand the impact fishing has had in the Coral Sea. That’s why I’ve narrated this short video showcasing the Coral Sea’s amazing marine life.
